Karnataka asks TN to pull out STF

The Karnataka government on Thursday has asked the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force, which is conducting combing operations in the Sathyamanglam forest range to nab brigand Veerappan, to remain within its territory and jurisdiction in Tamil Nadu.

The Karnataka STF was pulled back to their base camps on September 12 to ensure the safe release of former Janata Dal (United) minister H Nagappa, who was abducted by the brigand on August 25.

The Karnataka government's request follows the meeting between the abducted leader's wife Parimala and other family members, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Nagappa's daughter Bhavan Patel said the family sought the cooperation between the two states in ensuring Nagappa's release as they had shown in trying to nab Veerappan.

Sources said that Jayalalithaa declined Nagappa's family's claim that she had promised all help after obtaining legal opinion, and had only promised that the state "will do what is possible if Karnataka seeks our assistance."
