Rahul likely to take over as Congress Seva Dal chief

R Prema in New Delhi

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is understood to have finally given the green signal for her son Rahul to make his political debut.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to formally join the Congress Seva Dal on November 14, the birth anniversary of his great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru.

Sources at 10 Janpath, the residence of the Gandhis, said he would take over as the Seva Dal chief.

They claimed that it was for Rahul's convenience that Sonia Gandhi had waived the mandatory Gandhi cap for Seva Dal workers at a recent workers' session in Karnataka.

Rahul will be following in the footsteps of his father, the late Rajiv Gandhi, who also entered politics as the Seva Dal chief and then became a general secretary of the Congress.
