5 killed, 25 injured as train hits
bus at railway crossing in AP

Five passengers were killed and 25 injured, five of them seriously, on Sunday morning when a speeding train rammed into an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporations bus at an unmanned level crossing in Anantapur district.

According to South Central Railway and APSRTC officials, the accident occurred around 0845 IST in the Rayadurg-Bellary section under Guntakal division.

The bus, which was on its way to D Hirchal village from Rayadurg town, was passing through the unmanned level crossing when the 252 Guntakal-Chitradurg passenger train rammed into it.

Villagers and police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the government hospital at Bellary in neighbouring Karnataka.

APSRTC and SCR officials also rushed to the spot.
