Unidentified plane drops packages over Bengal, but IAF didn't see anything

Amin Babu Ahmed in Kolkata and Josy Joseph in New Delhi

Reviving memories of the Purulia arms drop case, an unidentified plane on Thursday flying over Indian air space dropped some packages over West Bengal, sources said.

The packages fell into a pond in a village in North Dinajpur district, the sources said.

The packages discoloured the water, but their contents are not yet known.

However, an IAF spokesperson in Delhi said its radars had not detected any intrusion and that neither had they received any information regarding the incident from local authorities.

In 1995, a plane had dropped arms over Purulia district in West Bengal causing a nationwide furore.
