Preventive measures in West Bengal
following recovery of landmines

The police have been asked to interrogate passengers of any bus, if necessary, to prevent any untoward incident, East Midnapore District Magistrate Anil Verma said on Tuesday.

Administrations of East Midnapore and West Midnapore districts have taken these measures in view of the recovery of four landmines and a revolver from a private bus, bound for Nandigram in East Midnapore district, in Golabari area of West Bengal's Howrah district last Saturday, the district magistrate said.

Verma said 600 plainclothes policemen had been deployed in important towns like Haldia and Kolaghat to pre-empt any untoward incident.

Vigil in the areas bordering Jharkhand and Orissa had been intensified with 700 policemen in plainclothes deployed as a precautionary measure, West Midnapore District Magistrate M V Rao said.
