He has sought a report from the party unit in Chittoor on the rally. The chief minister held informal consultation with senior leaders, politburo members and ministerial colleagues throughout Monday.
He will convene a politburo meeting to decide on the suspension of Ramamoorthy and other erring leaders from the party, sources said.
Ramamoorthy had held the rally against the wishes of his brother. TDP cadres and local leaders accorded him a big welcome in Chittoor town. There was an unprecedented rally comprising 300-odd vehicles from Chittoor to Chandragiri, near the temple town of Tirupati. Hundreds of supporters raised slogans reaffirming their faith in him.
He was received with full honours at Kanipakam temple and allowed to address a press conference at the executive officer's chambers.
Ramamoorthy claimed he had sought the chairmanship of Kanipakam temple trust. When he was a legislator, Ramamoorthy had prepared a Rs 45 million plan for the temple, but the authorities never implemented it.
What, however, piqued Chandrababu were the controversial utterances of Ramamoorthy, who claimed that the chief minister never asked him to stay away from politics after he lost from Chandragiri constituency in the 1999 assembly polls.
He explained that he was away from party affairs for last three years as he was abroad for business purposes.
"I am a committed worker of the party and nobody will prevent me from serving my people. I do not mind what the party high command thinks of me. The party workers in the district want me to come back to politics and attend to their grievances. I am even ready to contest the elections if the partymen want me to do so," he declared.
Ramamoorthy claimed that his brother's order to party cadres to keep off his rally was the result of machinations of vested interests. He maintained that his conduct as the younger brother of the CM was "honest and upright." But the Congress and other opposition parties had tried to defame him by hurling false allegations.
The rally was attended by several local leaders, including Chittoor municipal chairman T Chengalraya Naidu, Chittoor Cooperative Sugar Factory chairman N P Ramakrishna, former municipal chairman A S Manohar.
