BJP to contest 52 seats in J&K

The BJP will contest 52 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly leaving 12 seats for the RSS-backed Jammu State Morcha.

This was the outcome of a day-long meeting of central and state leaders on Tuesday to sort out the issue of seat-sharing with the Morcha, party leader in charge of the state O P Kohli told reporters in Delhi on Wednesday.

Releasing a list of seven candidates, he said with this, the exercise of selection of candidates was complete and the party would now concentrate on the election campaign.

Tuesday's meeting convened by BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu was attended by party general secretaries Rajnath Singh, who is in-charge of J&K affairs, Arun Jaitley, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Sanjay Joshi and Anita Arya, and state leaders Chaman Lal Gupta and O P Kohli.

The name of seven candidates released on Wednesday are:
1. Wali Mohd Wani (Khanyar)
2. Bali Bhagat (Ramban)
3. Pawan Gupta (Udhampur)
4. Prithvi Chand (Chenani),
5. Ashok Khajuria (Jammu East),
6. R S Chib (Suchet Garh)
7. Ram Swaroop Sharma (Akhnoor).

Meanwhile, the Congress on Wednesday announced the list of its candidates for 13 assembly constituencies in Jammu district, which goes to the polls in the second phase of elections on September 24.

1. Yogesh Sawhney (Jammu East)
2. Mangat Ram Sharma (Jammu West)
3. Raman Bhalla (Gandhi Nagar)
4. Jagidh Raj Dubey (Bishnah)
5. Suran Lata (Samba)
6. Suman Bhagat (R S Pura)
7. Garo Ram (Suchetgarh)
8. Madan Lal Sharma (Akhnoor)
9. Tara Chand (Chamb)
10. Prakash Sharma (Vijaypur)
11. Chowdary Hamid (Nagrota)
12. Balwan Singh (Marh)
13. Moula Ram (Raipur-Domana).

Party secretary Vaid Prakash told mediapersons in Jammu that the Congress would give representation to Sikhs in the legislative council.
