Rajdhani mishap toll mounts to 105

The toll in Monday night's derailment of the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express rose to 105 even as rescuers on Wednesday evening made fresh attempts to locate bodies that might be trapped in the wrecked train.

Divisional Railway Manager (Mughalsarai) K K Saxena told PTI that the death toll was likely to go up as rescuers, braving inclement weather, were still searching the AS-2 coach, the last of the mangled bogies.

Eastern Railway sources in Kolkata said 84 bodies had been identified so far. The sources put the number of injured at 182.

Aurangabad's District Magistrate S Siddharth told PTI that, as of Wednesday morning, 50 bodies had been handed over to the relatives of the victims.

The train was running at 120-130 km/ph when it derailed on a rail bridge over river Dhave in Aurangabad district of Bihar. There were 528 passengers and 60 railway staff on board.
