Cauvery row: SC issues notice to S M Krishna on TN's contempt petition

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on the contempt petition filed by Tamil Nadu alleging non-release of Cauvery river waters as stipulated by the apex court and later by the Cauvery River Authority (CRA).

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Arijit Pasayat asked the chief minister to file his reply by September 30, the next date of hearing.

The court also asked the Union Government to file by September 27 an affidavit indicating the inflow of Cauvery waters into the Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu to ascertain whether the directions of the CRA and the apex court have been complied with.

Notices were also issued to Karnataka's Water Resources Minister H K Patil, Chief Secretary A Ravindran and the secretary in the water resources ministry.
