Two persons, including a Central Reserve Police Force jawan, were killed and a policeman seriously injured on Tuesday in a landmine blast triggered by Naxalites of the outlawed People's War group in the East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

Police spokesman Shujath Ali told rediff.com that the incident occurred around 0930 IST in the forest between Addateegala and Bantumilli villages when a police party, which included CRPF jawans, was combing the area.

CRPF jawan Suresh Singh and policeman G Srinivas Rao were killed on the spot and CRPF jawan R D Burman sustained multiple injuries when Naxalites triggered landmines. Burman was shifted to the government hospital at Rajahmundry.

The Naxalites took one light machine gun (LMG) from the slain CRPF jawan and a self-loading rifle (SLR) from the policeman.

In another incident on Tuesday night, the People's War group blasted a new police station building at Mannur village in Rajampet sub-division in Cuddapah district.
