President A P J Abdul Kalam has reached Leh, headquarters of Ladakh district, on the second leg of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Kalam accompanied by Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed reached Leh at around 0920 IST, official sources said in Jammu.
He was received by state ministers Nawang Rigzin Jora, Choudhary Lal Singh and chief executive of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Thupstan Tswang.
People had lined up on the either side of the road to greet the President, who drove to the circuit house from the airport.
Kalam is scheduled to visit Saboo village and interact with local residents, especially children.
Earlier, Kalam took off for Leh by a special aircraft despite inclement weather in Jammu.
Meanwhile in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, three militants and a jawan were killed in an encounter in the wee hours of Friday, police sources said in Srinagar.
The incident occurred at 0200 IST at Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam area, the source said adding three persons, including as woman, were injured in the crossfire.
They said three houses were gutted in a fire that broke out due to heavy shelling of the militants' hideout by security forces.
In Srinagar, a Central Reserve Police Force jawan was killed and another injured in the Shalimar locality.
The jawan was killed by a bullet from his own service rifle, sources said adding it was not clear whether it was an accident of he had committed suicide.
