SP to come out with another tape

Unfazed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's offensive, the Samajwadi Party on Saturday said it planned to release another tape to substantiate its charges of corruption at the highest level in the state.

Copies of a tape released earlier, which allegedly showed the chief minister exhorting her Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs to contribute to the party coffers from their constituency development funds, are being distributed among SP workers.

Undeterred by an inquiry ordered by Mayawati into the use of government funds during the Samajawadi Party rule in the state, the youth wing of the party is planning to hold protests all over the state on March 10.

The finer details of a mass agitation against the government would be finalised at the national executive meeting of the party on March 13 in Agra.

"The chief minister is giving lame excuses to avoid the blame as she did when the SP released to the press the coupons through which she had collected money for her birthday celebrations in January last," a senior SP leader said.

Meanwhile, BSP leaders too have begun preparing to counter the SP propaganda.

"What more proof is needed [against SP] when two former SP MPs -- Ramakant Yadav and Bhalchan Yadav -- have gone on record detailing how the SP chief used to demand money from them," a BSP leader said.

"More such evidence would be brought before the people soon," he added.
