Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday said his career was like a "white sheet with no spots".

"If people do not like the achievements that have taken place during my governance, they can remove me from power. There is democracy in this country," he said addressing a large gathering of Indians in Bangkok.

The PM recalled his parliamentary career and said he had remained loyal to the principles of the Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"There have been times when governments have changed and even Indira Gandhi was defeated after the Emergency, but it was democracy that brought her back. I am proud of the democracy that exists in the country," he said.

Even though there were differences among the opposition parties in India, they were all united when it came to projecting the image of the country abroad, the PM said.
