Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is likely to seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the assembly on September 8 as directed by Governor Vishnukant Shastri, Samajwadi Party sources said in Lucknow on Monday.
Assembly sources, however, said they were yet to receive a formal communication from the government in this regard.
Shastri asked Yadav, who was sworn in on Friday last as chief minister, to prove his majority within 14 days of assuming office.
The budget session of the UP assembly begins on Tuesday. Obituary references will be taken up after which the House will be adjourned for the day.
The business advisory committee of the House will meet on Tuesday to finalise the agenda of the rest of the session.
The budget for the year 2003-2004 is also likely to be passed in the current session though sources indicated that the new government would prefer to have a vote on account for the next three months.
