A delegation of Kashmiri pandits led by Professor Agni Shekhar of Punan Kashmir met Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Tuesday and appraised him about the difficulties faced by the pandits living in exile.
Briefing newsmen after a forty-five minute meeting with Advani, Shekhar said that they have asked the Union government to raise the monthly stipend for a displaced family of four from Rs 2400 to Rs 6000 per month.
"He listened to our demands sympathetically. We told him that we would like to return to Kashmir but not on the conditions of the separatists but on our own terms. We want a Union Territory like Chandigarh where the writ of the Indian constitution runs and where we can hoist the Indian Flag," Prof Shekhar said.
K L Chaudhary, another Kashmiri pandit leader, said that they have asked the Union government to improve the living conditions of the Kashmiri migrants.
