Keeping his promise, Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohor Joshi on Friday submitted his resignation after the special court in Rae Bareilly said charges would be framed against him and six others in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

The resignation was sent to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is right now on a foreign tour.

Others against whom charges will be framed are Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar; and Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Ashok Singhal, Vishnu Hari Dalmiya, Giriraj Kishore, and Sadhvi Rithambara.

All of them have been asked to appear in court on October 10, when the charges will be framed.

The court cleared Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani in the case.

Following the verdict, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said in New Delhi that there is no need for anyone to quit.

He said since it is a political case, no one is under any moral obligation.
