Chatterjee has been sentenced to death for raping and murdering Hetal in 1990. Hetal was just 14 then.

A review petition filed by his brother in the Supreme Court was rejected by a Constitution bench this afternoon. The petition was Chatterjee's last chance to escape the death sentence.

Chatterjee will be hanged on Saturday at 0430 IST.

"Everything has been done justly, he has to pay for the terrible crime he committed," the principal of the Welland Goldsmith School in central Kolkata, said.

Hart said the Supreme Court's decision is the "triumph of good over evil."

She, however, said she, along with students and teachers of the school, would pray for the convict's family.

"We sympathise with Dhananjoy's family. We will pray for them also. But Dhananjoy has to get the punishment for the
heinous crime he committed," she said.

Inspector General of Prisons Joydeb Chakraborty said arrangements are on for the scheduled hanging of the convict.
