SIT grants Sameer time till January 14

In response to his request seeking time till January 19 to appear for the interrogation in connection with the fake stamp paper scam, the Special Investigation Team has told Sameer Bhujbal to present himself latest by January 14.

Sameer is nephew of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

"We are not in a hurry to interrogate Sameer Bhujbal and have therefore conceded time till January 14," an official told PTI adding if he fails to appear till then, the SIT would proceed with the investigations as per its plan.

The SIT is expected to ask the 30-year-old whether he was aware of huge sums of money changing hands during transfers of senior police officials by the state home ministry and whether stamp scam prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi had interfered in the transfer process.

Several people, including senior police officials, have reportedly mentioned the existence of a transfer racket in the state home ministry.

There are reports that Inspector Jahid who was attached to the Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch and was probing a case involving Telgi was shunted to Nagpur to derail the investigation.

The SIT has already quizzed Director General of Police (CID) T K Choudhary in this connection as he was Additional DGP (Establishment) when Jahid was transferred.
