At least 15 people busy offering prayers in a mosque in Lakhdata Bazar in the heart of winter capital Jammu were injured in a grenade explosion on Friday afternoon.
Deputy Power Minister Javed Mustaffa Mir who was also inside the mosque, however escaped unhurt, police sources said.
The injured have been taken to SMGS hospital in Jammu and doctors said condition of one person was serious.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
This is the first attack in Jammu and Kashmir after the recent joint declaration in Islamabad by India and Pakistan, which paved the way for bilateral talks between the two countries.
The Deputy Inspector General of police Jammu range, Farooq Ahmed, immediately rushed to the spot.
Police said the area is being searched. The mosque is at a stone's throw from the main mosque in Jammu.
