Inclement weather hits Bihar relief: Army

The flood situation in 16 north Bihar districts was ''very bad' and inclement weather was coming in the way of relief and rescue operations undertaken by the army, Lt General R B Subramaniyam, GOC, Central Command, said on Thursday.

The Lt General told reporters at the Patna airport after making an aerial survey of four flood affected districts that flood situation in Madhubani and Sitamarhi districts was very bad and the army was doing its best to rescue the flood marooned people and providing succour to them.

The GOC said civil administration, army and air force personnel were working in tandem in relief and rescue operations in flood affected districts of north Bihar.

He said eight task force consisting of 300 armymen were working round the clock in flood affected districts with the help of civil administration in evacuating the flood affected people and distributing relief materials.

Altogether 32 army power boats were on duty under the command of eight task forces -- each having four power boats were reaching the remote villages with relief materials, the GOC said.

He asked the district administration to work for strengthening of river embankments and restoration of road and telecommunication links.
