Rising waters of the Brahmaputra River entered low-lying areas of Guwahati city on Wednesday afternoon, inundating the main arterial road connecting the city centre to the airport.
The Brahmaputra is flowing three metres above the danger mark, the highest recorded in the city since 1988 when the city was last flooded.

Authorities fear that the water level in the mighty river may rise further since heavy rains continue to lash the hills of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
