After a spate of raids on dance bars across the metropolis, the Congress-led Democratic Front government has come out with a stringent code for dance bars.

The code of conduct, to be effective soon, stipulates that bar maids would not wear revealing costumes and patrons can forget about showering wads of currencies on them, Minister of State for Home (Rural) Kripashankar Singh told PTI in Mumbai.

It suggests erecting a three-feet high barrier adjoining the dance stage as well as a distance of five feet between the seating area (for patrons) and the stage to avoid physical contact between patrons and the girls, sources in the home department said.

The minister justified the code reasoning that certain dance bars have become pick-up joints and venues to carry out illegal activities.
