The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to set up a two-member committee to probe the multicrore Taj Expressway project afresh.
The Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday decided to order a fresh probe into the project following directives to this effect by the Allahabad high court, state Chief Secretary V K Mittal told reporters after the meeting.
The high court had earlier rejected the report of Justice S R Misra Committee and directed that the government could order a fresh probe if needed.
The Committee, having one member of the judiciary and another of other services, will be set up in a couple of days, Mittal said.
The Rs 700 crore Taj Expressway project connecting Noida with Agra, envisaged by the previous Mayawati government, had come under attack with allegations of large-scale malpractices in the process adopted to allot the contracts for the project and its implementation.
A PIL was also filed in this connection in the high court.
