Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed escaped unhurt in a militant attack on the office of the district magistrate in Anantnag where he was filing his election papers on Wednesday afternoon.

Six people, who were in the vicinity, were injured in the rifle grenade attack, the police said.

The grenades were fired in quick succession. One of the grenades exploded inside the office complex of the district police chief, while two others exploded at the district magistrate's office.

M M Sayeed, after filing his papers for Pahalgam constituency, was escorted safely outside and is on way to Srinagar.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Sayeed is the ruling Peoples Democratic Party candidate from Pahalgam constituency in Anantnag district. The seat was vacated by his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, after she was elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year.
