Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation and International Association of Human Values, Thursday visited the slums in Kalina, the worst affected area during the Mumbai floods.

"My visit here establishes a bond with the people here. They know that I am accessible," he said.

The Art of Living Foundation has been appointed as the nodal agency by the state government to carry out the relief work in Kalyan and Dombivli on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Sri Sri met more than 10,000 flood-affected people

"Initially, people here needed food, so we distributed more than 30,000 food packets in the first three days. Then we cleaned up the area and sprayed disinfectants and distributed phenyle to the locals." says Alpa Mulki, the coordinator of the project.

Art of Living volunteers have been conducting counselling and trauma relief camps in flood-affected areas.
