Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati Wednesday alleged that some Samajwadi Party leaders could be behind the sting operation cash-for-questions, which showed 11 members of Parliament, including three from her party, accepting money.
The manner in which some of SP's political rivals, especially the BSP, were exposed in the sting operation, there have been speculation that "Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav or party leader Amar Singh could be behind it", Mayawati told reporters in Patna.
"People do not consider it a coincidence that none of the Samajwadi Party MPs were tested during the sting operation by the TV channel and feel that it could be just another political plot by some vested interests," Mayawati alleged citing a report in a Hindi daily published from Delhi ,which claimed that while 11 MPs were shown taking grafts, the names of 13 others including at least four of the SP were kept under wraps.
She alleged that Yadav and his men were exerting pressure on the company (website), which carried out the sting operation.
"There is no doubt in the minds of the people about the uprightedness and honesty of the SP leaders who are known for amassing huge wealth through corrupt means," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister alleged.
Mayawati also said that once her party comes into power at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh "it would expose the real faces of both Mulayam Singh and Amar Singh and they would forget once and for all raising canards over the Taj and Volcker".
