Despite suggestions that it would be the "generation next" calling the shots now, Bharatiya Janata Party's silver jubilee celebrations currently underway in Mumbai have been a "Ram-Laxman" show.

The duo of BJP stalwarts Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Kishenchand Advani were thus referred to by party general secretary Pramod Mahajan in his remarks on the opening day of the convention.

"They (Vajpayee and Advani) are the Ram-Laxman who vanquished all rakshasas (demons) in the party's journey during the last 25 years," Mahajan said.

Posters and hoardings at the venue and all over the city also carried images of the two leaders.

Delegates on way to the mess set up at the venue were greeted by images of Vajpayee and Advani serving food to delegates at the party's maiden national convention in Mumbai in 1980.

Incidentally, till a day before the commencement of the session, there was only Vajpayee's image serving food, placed at the entrance of the mess. The 'mistake' was later rectified.
