The incident occurred Wednesday in which Prithviraj Rane, a local stone crushing owner was lynched by a mob, which was followed by violence by villagers seriously injuring a Superintendent of police, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, an Inspector and 30 constables.
Rane, who came back to Goa from Mumbai Thursday afternoon condemned the incident and said that a thorough enquiry would be ordered into it. He said that attack on law enforcement officers was unwarranted and action would be taken against those who are involved in attacking officers.
The Chief Minister denied that the deceased was his relative though they share the same surname. Meanwhile, around 500 villagers on Thursday surrendered before police after brief negotiations with senior police officers. The villagers were taken to Valpoi police station, which is 10 km away from the Saleli villege.
Police officials said that the situation in the village was under control.
