Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati on Thursday charged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav with orchestrating the murder of her party member of Legislative Assembly Raju Pal.
She also demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the incident and the imposition of President's rule in the state.
After visiting the residence of the slain MLA, she alleged, "Mulayam Singh has conspired with his 'right hand man' Atiq Ahmed, member of Parliament, to eliminate Pal."
Mayawati said she would call upon President A P J Abdul Kalam to demand President's rule in the state to free it from Mulayam Singh's 'jungle raj'.
The BSP leader said the ruling party was trying to project the murder to be a result of gang war. "Why were the security men guarding Pal silent when the attack happened and why didn't they retaliate?" she asked.
She termed the arrest of Atiq Ahmed's brother Mohd Ashraf an 'eye-wash' and said only a CBI probe would unravel the truth.
Stating that 'utter lawlessness' prevailed in the state, she asked the Congress to cooperate with her to oust the state government.
