Police picked up six persons, including four of a family, formerly associated with the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, from Faizabad in connection with the terror attack on Ramjanmabhumi complex in Ayodhya, official sources said on Monday.
While two former SIMI members Dr Mohammed Ahmed and Kamil alias Kajjan were detained from the Lalbagh area on Sunday and released after questioning, two others Zameer and Tanveer were picked up from the same area on Monday and were being interrogated, they said.
The four had earlier been arrested during a crackdown on the banned SIMI a few years ago and were acquitted by a local court only 3 months back.
Two more persons Qadir and Asif were also picked up for questioning but released after sometime, the sources said.
Another member of the same family Aqil was allegedly involved in the sensational bomb blast in Sabarmati Express train at Roza railway station in Faizabad in the year 2001.
Earlier, Police had arrested four persons in Ambedkarnagar district on Sunday where the terrorists had reportedly stayed for some time before they came to Ayodhya for the attack on July 5.
Meanwhile, interrogation of Rehan, the driver of the jeep used in the attack and Rajkumar, driver of the taxi, hired by the terrorists, was underway.
