Maharashtra Minister for Technical and Higher Education Suresh Jain on Thursday resigned from the Democratic Front government.

He is one of the four ministers accused of corruption by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

His resignation follows a report submitted on February 23 by Justice Sawant Commission, which was set up to probe the charges made by Hazare.

The state government set up the one-man commission in September 2003.

Apart from Jain, Hazare had accused Nawab Malik, Vijaykumar Gavit and Padamsinh Patil of being corrupt.

The ministers too had accused Hazare of corruption.

The probe was completed in a span of one-and-a-half years and it involved examination of 119 witnesses. Over 800 documents of about 40,000 pages were referred to during the probe.
