A day after the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh completed one year in office, Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy effected a staggering bureaucratic reshuffle by transferring a record 73 Indian Administrative Service officers in a single day.
On Sunday night, the General Administration Department notified the transfers and postings of the officers of the rank of principal secretaries, secretaries, commissioners, directors, managing directors of state-owned corporations and district collectors and joint collectors.
The bureaucratic reshuffle came just two days after the chief minister told the IAS and Indian Police Service officers to live up to the expectations of the people. He had stated that his government would only stipulate guidelines and suggestions for good governance and it was up to the officials to implement the programmes in letter and spirit.
S V Prasad, who had earlier worked as principal secretary to chief minister during the 9-year tenure of N Chandrababu Naidu, was given a key posting as principal secretary of energy department.
