Taking forward its effort to bridge the gap between the communities in Kashmir, the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference has decided to hold its second round of talks with displaced Kashmiri Pandits later this month followed by meetings with people of Jammu and Ladakh.
"The meeting (between the Hurriyat and Pandits) is overdue and it will take place either in the last week of this month or in the first week of December in Jammu," President of National Peoples Party Syed Saleem Geelani told PTI.
The meeting will take place only after the return of a Hurriyat delegation, led by chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, where they are going to express solidarity with the quake-hit people.
He said the conglomerate was working on starting CBMs to bridge the gulf between the two communities but added that since it was not in "power", it could not decide on guarantees to Pandits at this stage.
"Our efforts are to build bridges first and then talk about the political aspect," he said, adding that the talks were scheduled to take place earlier but were delayed due to the October 8 quake.
Geelani, who is visiting Jammu on November 12 and 13 to finalise the modalities of the talks, said the amalgam also plans to hold separate meetings with Dogras of Jammu and Buddhists of Ladakh at a later date.
The Hurriyat had organised the meeting with displaced Kashmiri Pandit organisations in Srinagar in July.
However some main representative bodies like Panun Kashmir and Kashmir Samiti had stayed away saying they had not been invited.
