Tension gripped Sabzi Mandi and Hatti Madari areas in Mau Tuesday following some incidents of arson and stone-pelting even as night curfew continued in the riot-torn town.
Some people tried to set ablaze a house in the sensitive Sabzi Mandi area, but an alert police picket reached the spot forcing them to flee, police said Tuesday.
In another incident, stones were hurled at some houses in Hatti Madari locality triggering tension, they said adding security personnel, however, prevented the situation from going out of control.
Meanwhile, night curfew continued in the town with no report of any untoward incident from anywhere else in the district, they said.
Security personnel continued to maintain a strict vigil, they said adding, the situation would be reviewed later in the day by senior officials.
Curfew had been clamped in the town following communal clashes during Dussehra festival in which 12 people were killed and 40 others injured.
