The Rashtriya Janata Dal will review the cause of its defeat in the recently concluded Bihar assembly polls, which led to the party ouster from power after ruling for a long 15 years.

The senior RJD leader and Union Minister of Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh told rediff.com in Patna on Friday that RJD will review the causes of party defeats in assembly polls. "We have started reviwing the causes of defeats," he said.

Singh, who was in Patna to attend the special meet of the newly elected party legislators to elect former chief minister Rabri Devi as leader of the RJD legislature party in state assembly, said that party is serious to review the causes of defeat.

He said that we have directed leaders and workers from district to block levels to submit their reports of performance and causes of defeats. Besides, party has decided to give chance to all party workers and leaders to come out with their views and suggestion on how to strengthen the party and its social base.

Singh admitted that after playing as ruling party for one and a half decade, the party has to play a new innings as opposition in state.

The RJD won only 54 of 243 assembly seats and its alliance partner Congress has won 9, Communist Party (Marxist)  and Nationalist Congress Party one seat each.

The party's poor performance is being widely debated in party circles as it was not expected by party chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.
