Former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghu Raj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, was produced before a designated Prevention Of Terrorism Act court in Jabalpur on Saturday, amid tight security.
Special Judge R P Mishra is expected to hear the bail plea of Raja Bhaiya, who was brought from Pratapgarh district jail in Uttar Pradesh.
Raja Bhaiya's father Uday Singh, who was also asked to appear before the court, expressed inability to comply with the directive, citing health reasons. The court, however, sought a medical certificate in support of his claims.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements were made in and around the court complex and visitors entering the court premises were frisked, in view of Raja Bhaiya's appearance.
As per Supreme Court directives, records relating to the case were transferred to Madhya Pradesh from the Kanpur POTA court, where Raja Bhaiya's defence lawyers had applied for bail on November 14.
Raja Bhaiya had resigned from the Uttar Pradesh Ministry on November 10 and surrendered before the designated POTA court in Kanpur on November 14, after the Supreme Court quashed the state government order withdrawing POTA charges against him.
