Police on Monday arrested a key suspect in the murderous assault on aspiring model Sanjana Srivastav on March 11. Deepak Mullick, a close friend of Srivastav, was arrested from Patna and was brought to Mumbai on Monday afternoon.

He will be produced before a court later on Monday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta told PTI in Mumbai.

Deepak is suspected to have shot Srivastav who was later found with serious skull injury in a western Mumbai suburb before she was admitted to a hospital. Medical investigations revealed that pellets from a gunshot imbedded inside her skull, compelling doctors to perform a major surgery to extract the pellets.

For several days when Srivastav was unconscious after her surgery, police probed if she had attempted suicide. However, later, police learnt that her close friend Mullick was the last person who was with Srivastav before the incident took place.

Mullick went absconding after the incident, police said. Sanjana later admitted that she was shot at by Mullick. Following this Mullick was booked for attempt to murder. Srivastav, 26, who hails from Lucknow, wanted to make it big in the tinsel town and had got a break in some TV soaps, police said.
