The Army was called in on Saturday, to help in rescue efforts as heavy rains led to overflowing of rivers and lakes and submergence of various areas in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, officials said.
Heavy showers also lashed Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer and western parts of the state, disrupting normal life.
In Udaipur, which recorded a rainfall of 111.1 mm since Friday, water has accumlated in low-lying areas and traffic has been disrupted, Inspector General of Police (Udaipur) Rajeev Dasot told PTI. People living in lower areas have been shifted to safer places.
Major lakes like Fatehsagar, Swaroopsagar and Udaisagar were filled to capacity and gates of Udaisagar dam were opened. This has caused submergence of thousands of acres of land in Dabok and Vallabh Nagar areas of the city, he added.
Overflow of water from Goverdhansagar lake led to a 'flood-like situation' in Vasant Vihar, Swami Nagar, Malviya Nagar and some other areas, officials said. People residing in colonies on the bank of river Ahar have been evacuated to safer places with the help of Army.
Heavy rains also left Gandhisagar and Ranapratapsagar in Kota region filled to capacity, they added.
