Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today said Telangana Rashtriya Samiti leader K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is pressing for early action on creation of separate state of Telengana, has given an assurance that he would remain a part of the United Progressive Alliance. Rao and his TRS colleague A Narendra had resigned on Tuesday from the Union Cabinet
''Rao gave the assurance after a meeting of all the UPA constituents held earlier Tuesday, attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi,'' he told mediapersons at a briefing at the Parliament House.
Dasmunsi said all the UPA constituents requested Rao to take all into confidence before taking any decision of snapping ties with the UPA, pointing out to him that a committee was already considering the issue of separate state of Telengana.
According to the minister, various UPA constituents told Rao that this was no time to withdraw support to the UPA Government on the issue of Telengana, and also cautioned him against ''hobnobing'' with the Bharatiya Janata Party in this regard.
''Rao later conveyed to me that he would consult his party colleagues before taking the final decision,'' Dasmunsi said.
