Hitler's Cross, the restaurant in Navi Mumbai that sparked protests by Jewish groups over its name, will be renamed Cross Cafe, its owners said Tuesday.

"We are putting up the board bearing the new name on Wednesday," the restaurant's managing director Punit Sabhlok told PTI. "We hope the new name will be a trouble-free one. We have deleted Hitler's name and the swastika symbol will be replaced with multi-coloured rings."

Two other options, Fort Knox and Exotic Goblet, were considered by the owners before they decided on the new name, Sabhlok said. "After considering them, we decided to keep it simple and call it Cross Cafe," he said.

Since its opening on August 18 at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, the eatery had attracted the ire of a large section of people, including Jewish groups and the consuls general of Israel and Germany, who criticised the management for glorifying Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
