The Singur issue resurfaced in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday leading to adjournment of the House twice in the pre-lunch sitting.
Proceedings in the Upper House have been derailed almost every day for the last 10 days on various issues ranging from the Babri Masjid demolition to the controversy generated over the prime minister's remarks on minorities.
As the Zero Hour began on Tuesday, slogan shouting National Democratic Alliance members expressed grave concern over the health condition of Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee who is on an indefinite fast, against the transfer of farmland to Tatas.
As soon as the Question Hour was over, Dinesh Trivedi of Trinamool Congress tried to raise the Singur issue.
He was backed by Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena members including Sushma Swaraj.
However, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said that their Zero Hour notice was under the consideration of Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
This did not satisfy the agitated National Democratic Alliance members who alleged that 1,000 acres of cultivable land had been given by the West Bengal government to the Tatas while the protesting farmers were being beated up by the police.
As the din continued, the deputy chairman adjourned the House for 15 minutes. When the House reassembled, noisy scenes were witnessed and the chair asked the members to lay their special mentions instead of reading them.
As the opposition members did not show any signs of relenting, the House was adjourned till 1400 hours.
