Milon Bannerjee, Attorney General of India has been awarded Honourary Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in London, the oldest body of jurists established 600 years ago.
Bannerjee is the third Indian to become a member of the eminent club of jurists. He had earlier received Padma Vibhushan in 2005.
Former President of India, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma and former chief justice of India, M Hidayatulla, are the other two who were awarded this honour from India.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair, former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher and other distinguished personalities were also members of the club.
Lincoln's Inn, established in 1422, is the oldest of four Courts in London. It grants the Bar-at- Law degree.
