Karnakata Chief Minister Dharam Singh, whose coalition government is facing a crisis, on Sunday night met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Hyderabad and the two leaders were understood to have discussed the political situation in the state.

A faction of the Janata Dal-United lead by H D Kumaraswamy has withdrawn support to the Congress lead government and has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party and staked claim to form the government.

The meeting took place at the special cottage at Gachibowli stadium, the venue of Congress plenary session, party sources said.

Singh, who faces the trial of strength on the floor of the assembly on January 27, arrived at Hyderabad at 1930 IST and the meeting took place around 2100 IST, they said.

There was no official word on what transpired at the meeting that came against the backdrop of Congress leadership indicating the possibility of Sonia Gandhi holding talks with Janata Dal chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda after the Plenary Session to resolve the crisis in the state.
