Militants on Wednesday afternoon gunned down two policemen in Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar.
Senior officers told rediff.com that militants fired from close range at a policeman near the vegetable market at Soura in downtown Srinagar.
"Constable Ghulam Rasool died on the spot," a senior officer said.
He said militants fired several pistol rounds at the cop from close quarters and fled.
The area was cordoned off.
Around the same time, militants struck near the Hazratbal Shrine on the outskirts of Srinagar, killing a police head constable.
The police said militants shot at head constable Karamjeet Singh from a close range.
"Militants fired several pistol rounds at Karamjeet Singh and later escaped. He was taken to the Medical Institute at Soura where he died," a senior police officer said.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killings.
