Jaya Bachchan, who in May was disqualified on the ground that she held an office of profit, on Monday took oath as a Rajya Sabha member after she was re-elected to the House.
Dismissed on the ground that she was the chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council, Bachchan was elected on a Samajwadi party ticket.
After the disqualification, which had triggered off a massive controversy with petitions being filed against various political leaders, Bachchan was re-nominated by the party from Uttar Pradesh.
Her husband, noted film star Amitabh Bachchan, daughter Shweta Nanda and UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and SP Lok Sabha MP Jaya Prada were amongst those present in the gallery to watch the swearing-in function.
Chaudhury Mohammad Aslam of the Congress, eminent industrialist Rahul Bajaj, K.P.K Kumaran of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Amir Alam Khan of the SP also took oath.
