Karnataka Cabinet on Sunday decided to go ahead with a two-day special session from tomorrow to discuss amendments to a legislation related to the Office of Profit issue.

The move puts at rest speculation that the Janata Dal Secular-Bharatiya Janata Party government might not hold the session in the wake of President A P J Abdul Kalam returning the Office of Profit Bill to Parliament.

The Assembly session would be held as planned and the Bill would be tabled in the House, Transport Minister N Chaluvaraya Swamy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

"The Office of Profit Act was enacted in 1956," he said, adding, the Government intended to move amendments with "small differences".

The proposed amendments were sought to be incorporated with prospective effect and not retrospective, the Minister said.
