Eleven persons -- two policemen and nine doctors -- on Wednesday deposed before the executive inquiry ordered by the West Bengal government into the police firing in Nandigram that claimed 14 lives.
The doctors who deposed were from hospitals of Nandigram, Khejuri and Tamluk to which persons injured in the police firing on March 14 were admitted, officials in district headquarters Tamluk said.
The deposition will continue till April 9.
The executive inquiry headed by Burdwan's Divisional Commissioner Balbir Ram was ordered by the state government on March 19 to determine whether outsiders were involved in the firing and under what circumstances police opened fire.
Opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, have alleged that outsiders fired on villagers in Nandigram on that day.
The state government has also ordered a CID probe into the incident and the CBI is investigating the incident on the order of the Calcutta High Court.
The CBI has submitted a report to the High Court. Meanwhile, the bandh called today in Nandigram block by the BJP evoked no reponse.
The BJP called the bandh to protest the arrest of party leader Badsah Alam and four others on the charge of yesterday ransacking the office of Nandigram's BDO, the venue of a failed all-party peace meeting.
