The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday replaced its Muslim candidate contesting the main Assembly segment in Congress president Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency.
BJP chief Rajnath Singh named Kusum Chauhan as his party candidate from Rae Bareli in place of Ghairul Hasan, who was the party's lone Muslim nominee.
The BJP has replaced several candidates, apparently as part of its reconciliation pact with its Gorakhpur MP Yogi
Adityanath, whose revolt over ticket distribution had threatened to split saffron votes.
Singh also named Satyajai Sharma as party canidate from the Jalalpur Assembly constituency.
