The presidential election in Pakistan will be held between September 15 and October 15 and President Pervez Musharraf will be re-elected by the present Assemblies, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Thursday night.

Aziz told the media in Islamabad that he has advised Musharraf not to proclaim emergency in the country.

He said the issue was discussed between him and the president, but it was found that there was no need for the time being for such an action.

The presidential elections will be held between September 15 and October 15, 2007, and the present Assemblies will elect the president. This would be followed by the general elections when the present Assemblies complete their term on November 15, 2007.

To a question, Aziz said Musharraf is totally eligible to contest elections again on the expiry of his term.

Replying to another question, the prime minister said elections are held under the auspices of the Election Commission and the government is facilitating its work.

The Election Commission is working on the voters lists to ensure that all eligible voters exercise their right to franchise.

Referring to his visit to Kabul and meeting with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, the prime minister said he proposed liberal visa regime between the two countries to facilitate travel of members of Parliament, businessmen and journalists.

Aziz said they also discussed matters about controlling militancy and cross-border movement of people, which is prejudicial to each other's security.
