Family members of persons missing in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday threatened self-immolation if the state government fails to provide information about their kin within a month.
"We will go for self-immolation in Lal Chowk in the heart of Srinagar if the government does not provide us information about our wards within a month," president of Association for Parents of Disappeared Persons Parveen Ahanger told reporters at Pratap Park where the association held a demonstration on Friday.
She said all 400 members of the association were upset over the silence of successive governments in the state towards their plight.
The protests against the killing of innocent persons in fake encounters entered the fifth consecutive day on Friday in Srinagar.
Parveen said recent arrests of police officers in connection with fake encounters has exposed the Special Operations Group and other security forces who picked up their kin and declared them as disappeared.
"The cases are as old as 17 years. We do not demand any compensation, but simply want to know where they have kept them. Whether they are alive in jails or killed. If they have been killed, give us the corpses," Parveen said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party headed by Hashim Qureshi and Jammu and Kashmir Islamic political party, a constituent of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, took out protest demonstrations in the Srinagar demanding an immediate end to the violation of human rights in the state.
